Anxiety is real. Stress is real. And in a world that never slows down, it is easy to feel crushed under the weight of worry, fear, and uncertainty.
But Islam โ a religion sent as rahmah (mercy) for all of humanity โ did not leave us without guidance. The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ himself experienced fear, grief, and hardship. And he left us a treasury of duas โ specific words to say in specific moments โ that have brought peace to Muslim hearts for over 1,400 years.
These are not just words. They are a direct line to Allah. Let us learn them together.
1. The Dua of Grief and Anxiety (The Most Comprehensive)
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wal-bukhli wal-jubn, wa dhala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal
Meaning: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt and from being overpowered by men.
2. Hasbunallah โ The Dua of Total Surrender
When worry becomes too large to carry โ when the mind races and the heart is too heavy โ this short but mighty phrase brings immediate relief:
Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakil
Meaning: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
3. The Dua of Prophet Yunus (AS) โ For When You Feel Trapped
Prophet Yunus (AS) was inside a whale, in the depth of the ocean, in complete darkness. Yet he called out to Allah with these words, and Allah responded.
La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin
Meaning: There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.
4. For When the Heart Feels Heavy
Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum, bi-rahmatika astaghith
Meaning: O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek relief.
5. The Dua of Expanded Chest
Rabbi ishrah li sadri wa yassir li amri
Meaning: My Lord, expand my chest and ease my task for me.
6. For Sudden Fear or Panic
Allahu Allahu Rabbi, la ushriku bihi shay'a
Meaning: Allah, Allah is my Lord. I do not associate anything with Him.
7. The Best Dhikr for Peace of Heart
SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil Azim
Meaning: Glory be to Allah and His is the praise; Glory be to Allah the Magnificent.
When to Read These Duas
Do not wait until you are overwhelmed. Read these duas every morning before the day begins, immediately when anxiety hits, after Salah when you are closest to Allah, and during Sujud โ the position where you are closest to your Creator.
"Call upon Me, I will respond to you." โ Surah Ghafir (40:60)
That is not a promise buried in fine print. That is a direct, unconditional commitment from your Creator. You are not carrying this alone. You never were.
